MURRAY, Ky. 鈥 Murray State University has announced the Augusta Perdune Manna, R.N. Memorial Scholarship Endowment. The scholarship fund was established by gifts from family and friends of Manna with intent to memorialize her loving and caring spirit, and to assist single-parent students at Murray State in obtaining an education to prepare them for a career of their choosing in order to support their family.
Manna began her collegiate career at Murray State in the fall of 1984, pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN). At the time, she was a 35-year-old single mother of two. While raising her two boys and providing for them, she worked diligently through the BSN program. She completed her degree with honors in May of 1990 to the amazement of her sons who watched her achieve her dreams of becoming a nurse. During her nursing career, she specialized in psychiatric nursing and assisting patients who were battling substance abuse.
At the time of her passing in 2011, her son Justin Manna sought to commemorate her legacy as a single mother, diligent student and compassionate nurse. The generosity of Manna's family made this possible, through their donations to the Augusta Perdune Manna, R.N. Memorial Scholarship Endowment fund in her memory.
鈥淚t is a privilege to support Murray State University's outstanding School of Nursing and Health Professions through this scholarship honoring my mom,鈥 said Justin Manna. 鈥淚 hope this scholarship helps single parents achieve their professional goals and improves the lives of their families for many years to come.鈥
鈥淲e are grateful to the Manna family for their generosity and are honored to play a small part in honoring Ms. Manna's legacy,鈥 said Brandon Anderson, Murray State University director of development for the College of Education and Human Services and University Libraries.
The next application period for the Augusta Perdune Manna, R.N. Memorial Scholarship Endowment will open in September 2024, with funds available for the first scholarship recipient in the fall of 2025.
