鈥淭he psychology department at Murray State University prepared me for graduate school, academia, and applied psychology in countless ways. The professors went out of their way to develop a sense of community for my peers and I to learn without the fear of failure. If it weren't for the opportunity to stop by the offices of my professors to brainstorm research ideas, review class materials, and seek life or career guidance I would not have been able to secure my achievements in graduate school or my early professional career.
My professors made sure to provide a training ground for discussing psychology and thinking critically about theories both within and beyond the classroom. Upon graduating from Murray State University, I had already played a role in developing multiple research projects resulting in presentations at national and regional conferences. I didn't know it at the time, but after entering graduate school I learned that these are unique opportunities which many undergraduates don't receive. The comfort and confidence instilled through these experiences allowed me to feel comfortable asking questions, designing studies, providing consulting services, and teaching courses in graduate school. Now, as an Assistant Professor, I use these lessons and experiences in my own department to emulate the classroom and lab environments that the faculty within Murray State's psychology department have worked so hard to maintain. The psychology department truly provides students with a sense of belonging, leading to collaborative learning through various transformative educational experiences. 鈥Tommy DeRossett Alum, Assistant Professor at Queens University -
鈥淎fter transferring to Murray State, the Psychology department's faculty greatly impacted the trajectory of my college career through their thoroughly-developed research methods curriculum. The professors always provide a welcoming learning environment to quickly develop professional skills and make connections for present and future success. Taking both Research Methods, Directed Individual Studies, and Research Skills courses gave me hands-on experiences with a multitude of statistical, quantitative, and qualitative methods and analyses. After only three semesters, I developed a proficiency in statistics software and doubled the size of my curriculum vitae. Please get involved in research in Murray State's Psychology department; you won't regret it! 鈥

鈥淢urray State University is the finest and friendliest place I know. The psychology program has opened doors I never thought possible, which is a feat I will never forget. The genuine intentionality and kindness within the department, among the faculty, students, and classes, creates a truly special environment to learn in and be supported by. This undergraduate experience will always be near and dear to my heart. Shoes Up and Go Racers!鈥
